Question: How do I calculate volume in cubic feet?
Answer: Ocean freight shipments are based on volume or density, whichever is greater. In order to calculate cubic feet, you will need to measure the length, width & height (in inches) of each piece to be shipped. One cubic foot is equal to one piece with dimensions of 12” x 12” x 12”, or 1728. Total volume in cubic feet is therefore calculated as follows:
(Length x Width x Height) ÷ 1728
A few helpful tips to keep in mind when calculating cubic feet:
- When measuring dimensions in inches, round up to the next highest whole number.
For example: 11 ½” = 12”
- Total cubic feet should be rounded up the next highest whole number.
For example: 14.55 cubic feet = 15 cubic feet.
